Please see our fabric swatch page for colors: https://revivalclothing.com/fabric-selection/

Note: Please note, with the difficulty of accurately representing colors on a variety of monitors, the color names are meant as descriptions along with the swatches. Please use both when deciding on what color to order. Also, despite how the colors may appear on your monitor the same color names in Wool, Silk and Linen are different and do not exactly coordinate.

Fifteenth century fashion is nothing, if not dramatic, and a part of that drama comes from the panoply of headgear worn by both sexes throughout the period. We’ve chosen four different styles for our men’s line that run the gamut from practical to outright outlandish; The Stuffed Chaperone, The Italianate Hat, The Acorn Hat and The Sock Hat. The Italianate Hat is a distinctive piece of 15th century headwear, usually worn by the mercantile and upper classes. Originating in Italy, it was particularly popular with military men, as shown on portraits of Federigo da Montefeltro and Francesco Sforza. It can be worn tall for a really distinctive 15th century look or with the brim turned up, for the shorter, more every day look.

Drawing after Portrait of Frederico da Montefeltro, Duke of Urbino, by Piero Della Francesca, circa 1465

Detail from fresco by Benozzo Gozzoli of the Journey of the Magi in the chapel of the Palazzo de Medici-Riccardi in Florence Italy circa 1459

Drawing after detail from a fresco by Andrea del Castagno in the Villa Carducci in Legnaia, Florence, Italy, circa 1450

Drawing after detail from a fresco by Masolino da Pancale in the Bapistry in the Castiglione Olona, Lombardy, Italy, circa 1435

Drawing after detail of a fresco by Gregorio Franceschino in the Tomb Chapel in the Cathedral of San Giovanni Batista in Monza, Italy circa the first half of the 15th century

Drawing after fresco by Piero Della Francesca of the Legand of the Cross in the choir chapel in San Francesco, Prezzo, Italy circa 1447

Drawing after fresco by Giotto of a Simple Man Honors Saint Francis in the church of San Francesco, Italy circa 1300

Drawing after the fresco of the Allegory of April: Triumph of Venus by Francesco del Cossa, in the Palazzo Schifanoia, Ferrara, Italy circa 1476

Drawing after fresco in the Hall of the Months in the Palazzo Schifancia in Ferrara, Italy circa 1466-1470

A merchant in a dark green Linen Doublet, with a white Collared Shirt peeking out from underneath, shows off his deep burgundy wool italinate hat.

A merchant in profile, he wears a black wool Italinate hat and a Red and Gold Linen Houppelande, you can also faintly see his collared shirt underneath his houppelande.
